Where to Start
Content throughout the site is constantly being created and updated, so its important to keep accessible best practices in mind.
Language
Its important we write content in a way that is easy for everyone visiting the site to understand. We can do so by writing simple, meaningful text, that is straight to the point.
Titles
When users land on a webpage the title is the first thing the screen reader will read aloud, so every page must have a unique title that describes the topic of the page.
Headings
Headings help with organizing and grouping together content within a website, this allows users to quickly scan headings to get an idea of where to find certain content, and what topics the page make mention of.
Images
Most websites will have multiple images scattered throughout the pages, so its important to be able to convey the meaning behind these images to all users navigating the site.
Links
Links are used all through out websites to take users to other locations within the site, or to another site. Its important link text gives users an idea of where they will be taken upon clicking that link by providing descriptive text.
Lists
When adding lists to a website its important to make sure they are formatted properly, so whenever built-in editing features are available, its best to use them to ensure the proper markup.
Multimedia
Multimedia can enhance the experience for many users. In order for all users to get the most out of these additions, transcripts and/or captions should be provided as well.
